Ceres - NASA Visions of the Future

Ceres sits within the asteroid belt and was the first dwarf planet in our solar system explored by spacecraft.

Ceres is the closest dwarf planet to our Sun and the largest object in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It has an equatorial diameter of only about 965 kilometers. It has been observed and studied with telescopes for more than two centuries. In March 2015, NASA's Dawn probe arrived in orbit around Ceres and it became the first dwarf planet to be explored by a spacecraft. The ongoing detailed observations by the probe are revealing interesting insights into this mysterious world of ice and rock.
