The Grand Tour - NASA Visions of the Future

NASA's Voyager mission took advantage of an alignment of the outer planets, that only happens every 175 years, for a grand tour of the solar system.

Today both Voyager spacecraft continue sending valuable science from the far reaches of our solar system and have officially exited the solar system to reach interstellar space. Along their journey through the solar system, the twin spacecraft revealed details about Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The gravity of each planet was used  to send them on to the next destination. Voyager paved the way for such ambitious orbiter missions as Galileo to Jupiter and Cassini to Saturn.
