Hubble captures an improved view of the iconic "Pillars of Creation" with a sharper and wider view of pillars in the Eagle Nebula.
In 1995, Hubble offered a breathtaking view of M16, the Eagle Nebula, which revealed details never seen before of three giant columns of cold gas. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the original launch of the Hubble Space Telescope, the lens was once again aimed at M16 to revisit the famous spot with keener vision. The towering pillars seen are about 5 light-years tall and bathed in the blistering ultraviolet light of a group of young, massive stars located off the top of the image. Stars are being born deep inside the pillars, which are made of cold hydrogen gas laced with dust.
